Enhanced Understanding and Interaction

GPT-4o excels in understanding and discussing images, outperforming any existing model. For instance, you can take a picture of a menu in a different language, and GPT-4o will not only translate it but also provide information about the food's history and significance, along with personalized recommendations. Looking ahead, GPT-4o plan to enable more natural, real-time voice conversations and real-time video interactions with GPT-4o. Imagine showing ChatGPT a live sports game and having it explain the rules to you in real time. A new Voice Mode, incorporating these capabilities, will be launched in alpha within a few weeks, with early access for Plus users.

Advanced Language Capabilities

To make advanced AI more accessible and useful worldwide, GPT-4o's language capabilities have been significantly improved in terms of quality and speed. ChatGPT now supports more than 50 languages across sign-up, login, user settings, and more. This enhancement ensures that users from diverse linguistic backgrounds can leverage the power of GPT-4o effectively.


Rolling Out GPT-4o

GPT-4o starting to roll out GPT-4o to ChatGPT Plus and Team users, with availability for Enterprise users coming soon. Additionally, GPT-4o is being introduced to ChatGPT Free users, albeit with usage limits. Plus users will have a message limit up to five times greater than free users, and Team and Enterprise users will enjoy even higher limits.

Bringing More Intelligence and Advanced Tools for Free

Out GPT-4o mission at OpenAI is to make advanced AI tools available to as many people as possible. Currently, more than a hundred million people use ChatGPT every week. In the coming weeks, GPT-4o will roll out more intelligence and advanced tools to ChatGPT Free users. Features available to Free users with GPT-4o include:

  • Experience GPT-4-level intelligence
  • Receive responses from both the model and the web
  • Analyze data and create charts
  • Chat about photos you take
  • Upload files for assistance with summarizing, writing, or analyzing
  • Discover and use GPTs and the GPT Store
  • Build a more helpful experience with Memory

Free users will have a limit on the number of messages they can send with GPT-4o, depending on usage and demand. When this limit is reached, ChatGPT will automatically switch to GPT-3.5 to ensure uninterrupted service.

Streamlining Your Workflow with the New Desktop App

For both free and paid users, GPT-4o launching a new ChatGPT desktop app for macOS. This app integrates seamlessly with your computer, allowing you to ask ChatGPT questions instantly using a simple keyboard shortcut (Option + Space). You can also take and discuss screenshots directly within the app.

The app supports voice conversations with ChatGPT, starting with the existing Voice Mode and later incorporating GPT-4o’s new audio and video capabilities. Whether you're brainstorming ideas, preparing for an interview, or discussing a topic, you can start a voice conversation by tapping the headphone icon in the bottom right corner of the desktop app. The macOS app rollout for Plus users begins today, with broader availability in the coming weeks. A Windows version is planned for release later this year.
